Add a product to the catalog
Overview
This flow describes how to add a product to the catalog of a facility in Care. A catalog entry defines a product that the facility can stock and use.
Pre-requisites
- You are a member of the facility.
- You know the category that the product belongs to.
- If you add a global entry that applies to all facilities, you are a superuser.
- You have the permissions listed below.
Permissions
| Permission | Access |

| Can Create Product Knowledge on Facility | Lets you add a catalog entry for the facility. Facility Admin and Admin have this permission. |
Note: Only a superuser can add a global catalog entry that belongs to no facility.
Steps
1. Open the product knowledge settings
Open the facility.
Click Settings.
Click Product Knowledge.
2. Browse to the category
Browse to the category that the product belongs to.
3. Start the new catalog entry
Click Add Product Knowledge.
4. Complete the form
Complete the form fields.

| Name | The name of the product. This field is required. |
| Slug | A short unique code for the product. This field is required. |
| Product Type | The type of the product: Medication, Nutritional Product, or Consumable. This field is required. |
| Category | The category that the product belongs to. This field is required. |
| Code | A standard code for the product. This field is optional. |
| Base Unit | The unit that measures the product, for example tablet or millilitre. This field is required. |
| Status | The status of the product. This field is required, and defaults to Active. |
| Alternate Identifier | Another identifier for the product. This field is optional. |
| Alternate names | Other names for the product. This field is optional. |
| Storage guidelines | The storage instructions for the product. This field is optional. |
5. Save the catalog entry
Save the form.
Expected Outcome
- Care adds the product to the catalog of the facility.
- The product shows in the selected category.
- Staff can select the product when they record stock and supply.
