Mark a patient as deceased
Overview
This flow describes how to record that a patient is deceased. You record the status and the date and time of death from the patient's profile.
Pre-requisites
- The patient is registered in Care.
- You can open the patient's profile.
- You have the permission listed below.

Steps
1. Open the patient's profile
Open the profile of the patient. See View a patient's profile.
2. Edit the additional details
Find the Additional Details section. Select Edit.
3. Mark the patient as deceased
Select the Patient is deceased checkbox. Care shows a field for the date and time of death.
4. Enter the date and time of death
Enter the date and time of death.
Note: The date and time of death must not be in the future.
Note: The date and time of death must not be earlier than the patient's date of birth. If the patient has an age instead of a date of birth, Care compares the date of death with the birth year that it calculates from the age.
5. Save the change
Save the Additional Details section. See Update patient details.
Expected Outcome
- The patient's profile shows the deceased status as "Passed away on
{date}, at{time}".
